Hahaha…nerdwerst…mmmhmm. It’s what my brother and I call each other when we’re being the ultimate in uncool. It’s actually a compliment, since we all know that to be cool you gotta rock the uncool factor. This outfit has some uncool aspects to it: the thrift store glasses, the ‘classic’ jacket, the fire crotchety hair. I think that’s why I love it. I built this look around the awesome spats I’m wearing. They’re made by my friend December, of Tarnished fame, and I’m totally smitten with them! For me, anything that gives me an excuse to wear legwarmers is automatically on my lust list. Lucky for me, the warmers are built in on this one! Wooo…!!! You can take these shoes in many different directions, and even loose the warmers if you care to (they have a mary jane buckle ankle strap underneath), and they’d be equally cute and interesting paired with a skirt or dress, etc.

I really love Zero Style hair and I’ve been waiting a while to wear this CSR prize style. When I first saw the hair I thought it would have been easiest for me to take it in a super cute direction and I had to resist. I thought this nerdy look would be a fun way to wear it and I love this ‘Auburn’ color which is rich and warm and nummy. The coat is from Total Betty, from the ‘College Bound’ collection, which is made of neutral colored, classic, staple pieces and all of it is really versatile and charming. I really like the collection and picked up a skirt (not pictured) along with the jacket which I’ll hopefully wear in a future post. (They have been, like most good items, sitting in the depths of my ‘closet’ patiently waiting for their day in the sun. Hopefully soon.)

The scarf is from Kristen Pick’s Alta Moda store which was one of the first stores I wrote about here, “way back when.” She’s now expanded and her place is in Bijou’s old store location. I’m really excited to see what she brings out as I really enjoy her line. Just check out the fantastic Beyonce Diva shades she whipped up for Uma! I like this scarf, “Ignition”, because it’s shorter and therefore can act as a collar. The TB coat doesn’t have a prim collar so this scarf acts as a good ‘finish.’ The pants are a stand by, Armidi’s skinny pant. I will always have love for them and they do what a good pant should do: come in a ton of colors, they work well with the statement pieces and they make your bum look good.

My bag is by =E.M.A= and I’ve had it tucked away for a while. I knew I had a good bag which referenced a classic school messenger! The bag is done really well and the attention to detail is great. I wanted to point out the rings I’m wearing. The first is Georgiabean Lately’s Ladybug ring which I have a special fondness for. I just think ladybugs are adorable plus they are considered lucky, which couldn’t hurt. ;)) The bow ring is from Demonade and I stumbled across the store in a random sim. I’d been after a good sculpty bow ring for a while and I was excited to find them in a ton of colors. The ring comes with a version for the left and right hands so you don’t need to adjust them yourself, a nice touch since most of my rings fit on the left hand and I like to pile on accessories. Oh and the Mom glasses from Yummy! What can I say? I love them. They sort of remind me of my grandma, who has light lavender ones that look exactly like these. For me there are only 4 types of glasses: HUGE, dorky, aviator and statement-weird. These are both huge and weird and I love the curve of the ‘arms.’

If you read this today, I urge you to run down to Cybernetic and pick up the free ‘Amy’ skin in the front of the women’s skin section. It was only suppose to be up for a day but it’s still there and it’s sooo pretty!! I hadn’t been to Cybernetic for a long time and after seeing the news of a freebie on the feed, popped on by. My has it changed!! When I was still a ‘noob’ I came across Cybernetic, which back then was very sci-fi looking, and picked up my first goth skin. Times have changed, as the sim is now ultra-luxe and the skins are decidedly softer and subtler. Usually I’m not the biggest fan of freebie skins, though occasionally I’ll come across a fantastic one. The “Amy” line certainly is that. I love the juicy lips with their dusting of sparkle, the small- yet not button- nose and the interesting eye makeups. The makeup I’m wearing is not the freebie one, but you can see it in this post. If you like it, and I’m most certain you will, I’d pop on by the store asap because there’s no telling how long it will be available. xoxo

I really fell in love with Sweetaholic’s kimonos after my friend December took me to their store. “You have to see this place!” she said, and the girl doesn’t lie. Sweetaholic’s are some of the prettiest kimonos I’ve seen in SL. Very, very well done. They are dramatic, the textures are rich and eye catching, the colors vibrant and the designs have subtle little twists that add interest. For the men out there, there are many cool designs as well. I was having trouble deciding what I wanted, since the answer was ‘all’ (don’t I wish), until this punk inspired plaid version caught my eye. I was drawn to how different it is, how it twists traditional into something newer and edgy and maybe even a little bizarre.

Instead of wearing a traditional kimono ‘do, which imho would trump the whole punk ideal, I decided to wear Lamb’s new group gift. !lamb is a new hair store which is making big news for it’s cute designs that come with a hat attached. Everyone who has tried to wear a hat in SL knows that it can be a real pain to fit, and it’s just easier to buy hairs with a hat attached. (or is it vice versa?) Well these, you will like, I am sure of it. I think that this hair is so cute it may even win over those that don’t like berets (the way the 69 CSR hair did). Although the beret is not made to be taken off (the hair is mod, fyi) you could always add another in it’s place, if you like.

The skin is AOHARU and I mention it because it was actually one of the first ‘nice’ skins I bought in SL. Since fashion here evolves by the minute, I think this speaks a lot that it’s still one I really adore. It’s the double black/red eyeliner and the soft, glossy transparent-red lips. In RL I’m not at all a lipstick girl, but prefer a good lip stain topped with lipbalm in it’s place. This makeup looks exactly like it and maybe that’s why I’m so fond of it.

I was compelled to add a little cuteness, to keep the look light hearted. The panda theme comes by coincidence, two cute new releases: Pink Fuel’s Pandas and Sanu’s Sushi Love sets. I really love pandas, and even considered getting a panda-hybrid skin although everyone tells me they’re weird. (You’re wrong, btw. Totes cute!) I knew that they would be just the touch to add kiddish interest and I love how Pink Fuel’s Pandas come with tons of different attachment points, as the leg is less common than a shoulder pet. (btw Mochi, I think a Koala bear leg pet would be a fantastic idea, :) just so you know. /me wants one!! ;p)

The J’s boots have been on my mind for a while. Yes, they are not new but they caught my eye the second they were out and I’ve been waiting patiently to wear them in an outfit. I have a thing for thigh-high boots and although they can be completely trashy if done wrong, I think when done right they are cool and add interest to an outfit. I don’t know if I’d wear them IRL, that just might be a little too much, but they are fun here. Some things just cannot be translated into pixels, and others should not be translated out of them. ;) I hope you like this look and thanks for reading. xoxo

Champagne and Vinyl

Hai. It’s been a bit, I know, it’s like I’ve been overloaded with ideas and it’s caused my brain to traffic jam a little. That and the fact that Esme, James and Francois have been bad influences, leading me to do terrible things like party and have fun. Buh. The nerve! ;p IRL I have a big affection for mixing vintage with new. One RL friend called my style “champagne and vinyl” with a little toasting gesture as he said it. I had his comment in mind as I thew together this look: a little luxe, a little old, totally fabulous. The fun part about this look is that with all the pieces I have something in RL that is very similar. In fact, this may just be my favorite look to date. If I had, and could, choose. I’m a big lover of prints with a washed and worn color scheme to them; I shy from many prints but never these. Many times IRL, I’ve gotten a dress with a bit too bright of a print and tinted it with tea (it really works!) to tone it down a bit. You have to be careful that the thread dyes too, but it’s a fun technique if you prefer softer colors. This dress perfectly encompasses this idea. I also have the most fantastic chartreuse feather headband from the 40’s, and after seeing this one I knew it must be mine. I love the color and feather mix, it’s so aesthetically perfect to me. So are the peacock earrings. I love peacock feathers IRL and wear my non-pixelated earrings often. (This summer I was able to feed my uncles ‘pet peacock’ that lives in the hills amongst his avocado trees in California. Yay!) Turquoise is one of my favorite stones, the color and the marbling are very pleasing to my eyes as well as the earthly quality it brings to my style. I collect old southwestern turquoise jewelry IRL and seeing Swallowtails made me wish for it to be summer so I could pile it on with a sleeveless top and take a long walk outside. I want to thank Jennifer Hana from SculptMix for this fantastic shoulder bag. Jennifer’s store is, bar-none, my favorite furniture store in SL. Chances are, if you know me and have mentioned furniture, I’ve given you this LM. Usually I wouldn’t go to such extremes to describe a place I shop at, but I have to say, everything she makes I love and I own quite a bit of it too. If you’re looking for soft, glowing, sexy, relaxed, glamours furniture, be sure to check her stuff out. The handbags aren’t for sale, yet, but *crosses my fingers* in the future I hope to be able to say that her things are available for sale. They are just too, too good not to be! I hope you like this look. More to come in the next day or so, I am determined to post more soon! xo

ps. I just discovered I’m the Site of the Week over at JuicyBomb! To hear such nice things about my site has totally made my day! yay! I’ve been a fan of Gogo and her sims for a long while so I’m very humbled and completely flattered by this gesture. Thank you Gogo! And welcome to all who visit via JuicyBomb! <33

Rusted Queen

January 8, 2009

I told you about Tarnished in my NYE post and I am back with more goodness from Miss December Larkham. I am lucky because not only is she a very unique and talented designer, not only does she make cushy, pouty, sexy lipped skins, but she is also a wonderful friend of mine. I was so excited to see this dress in the making, and counted the days until it’s arrival, and here it is! It’s called ‘Rusted Crow’ and is a black swan inspired gown. Crows (Ravens, if we are to count grains of sand) are my favorite bird and I have a personal love for all things with a bustle and so this dress holds a piece of my tender heart. It’s probably one of the most unique-yet- tradional gowns you’ll find out there, completely holding it’s own while drawing from the past. I decided to take it out on a limb with dreads, SOREAL’s to be more specific, another shop that I have a huge crush on (doesn’t everyone? those shoes!). And let me also mention this skin, I had to hold off on mentioning it right away, we save the best for last, yes? It’s also by Tarnished and it’s called…tahh dahh- Abra! I love the oooshy-gooshy lips, twins of Midnight Snowstorm’s, the skin of the NYE post. The metallic is so beautiful and can be taken in so many directions: ethnic as I have done here, futuristic, soft and feminine. The look is unmistakably Tarnished, and so pretty and different, yet completely wearable. (The skin is in it’s final stages and you’ll hear about it as soon as it goes up for sale, until then, scoop up a Rusted Crow and prance around in all your fancy glory!) I really love how this look turned out, funktastic poshy formal: the Rusted Queen! xo

keep a cool head about yourself

This wasn’t a planned post outfit. I’ve been enjoying it so much I thought it would post it, haha. Sometimes the best outfits happen organically. Usually when I wear something prim and proper, it turns out to be a little odd, which is how I see this outfit. It’s definitely because of the skirt and the skin. I’ve been loving Fashionably Dead’s skins for a long time, but didn’t get around to owning any until yesterday. It’s kind of weird, sometimes I’ll own something for a long while before wearing it, or I’ll learn about something and file it away until it pops back into my conscious at a most appropriate moment. I’m visiting some fam right now and I remembered about this great deli that serves the best Bánh mì. I had missed it the last time I was in town and last night we were sitting around drinking wine and the thought popped into my head. Mission time! Same with the FD skin. Perfect, lightening-striking quickness, complete randomness, or is it? Happenstance? Whatever it is, I dig it. :D xoxo

BTW, I’m wearing the fiveminutesafter flats I’ve been in love with. A while back, I posted a pic on my flickr which lead to the discovery of the main shop’s ‘closing.’ I didn’t think it possible, as rockin’ stores should never close. And of course, it was a false alarm! Thankfully, for us. hehe. The new shop is located in the Creamshop sim, next to the record shop and ice cream parlor. :))

Purple & Pink

January 2, 2009

I’m in a girly sort of mood. Blame it on Church of Luxe, what with all the cute, girly, hi-waisted dresses with puffly sleeves…I am enraptured by them. Marni Grut is on the brink of releasing these new “Slouchy Pouchy” bags over at (Royal Blue). I saw Dahlia with one and just swooned. The shape! The colors! Tell me, can a girl really have enough bags? And one more thing, Pig’s peacock stockings! They’re not new, but they’re fantastic!! I love the little feather in the back detail, a small surprise at the goodbye is always fun.

When growing up, my room was pink, purple and blue. My favorite colors back then. I’ve since branched out into bolder colors like rusty red and burnt umber and even yellow and green, but my love for the trio still remains. Here, I’ve subtracted out poor blue, but it’s ok because I’ve featured blue on it’s own before. I love this outfit. It’s a girly and a little posh. Cute, but not overly so. Not serious, but seriously easy to wear. A good way to start 2009, I think. xoxo

ps. This look can be worn a bunch of different ways, here are two to get you started. :))

a fool for joolz

I love new years. A fresh start, if only hypothetically, makes this girl feel sooo good. Don’t mind the title, I was having a Fiona Apple moment

Initially I had three looks photographed for this post. (Somehow New Years always means changing three times or so.)  (It was also suppose to go up New Year’s day, but we got started a lil early this year so…) What happened to my glam look? Eeee…I must dig it up later, as I have seemed to have missplaced it. Am I the only one who finds this delightfully funny? hehehe. Well, on with the show…

The first look accurately portrays me after the 4 glasses of champagne, the cosmo (will always be a fav), the 3 shots of something sweet (bought by the friend who’s always trying to get me drunk in hopes I’ll make out with him) and the gin and tonic (to keep it classy) consumed over the course of New Years 2009. (Or would that be 2008?) Yeah, I’m a lightweight, but I’m also small so there. Somehow whilst intoxicated, I morph into some sort of hummingbird, attracted to all things sweet and colorful and a bit funky. And I pile it on. Bad fashion? For some, sure! But for me, I find it fantastic, especially for dancing. Just don’t loose your rings, child.

New Years

And then there is the next day…brunch after the fact. Cozy, comfy, cute. Keep warm, drink water, eat your favorite meal and use a friend’s shoulder when it turns out to be much to much to keep your head up straight. I do partake in the ‘hair of the dog’ theory by consuming the ever popular bloody mary. Just gimme it extra spicy with all the fixings (that means spicy pickled beans, those lil onions, green olives with pimento and briny asparagus spears, and no less! Don’t piss off a girl with a headache, haha.) A tip: Pile on the makeup to cure the ‘face hangover’ people. Do it well, with skill, but do it. Please, heed my advice. Normally I’m a pretty natural girl, but you know, we are living in the age of cameras…built into everything. I swear, everyone and their spork has a camera now. My friend’s grandma doesn’t even drive anymore, but she’s quite handy with her cellphone’s camera. Be prepared.

BTW, this is my new favorite skin shop. Tarnished!!! December makes the most fantastic & unique skins with the thickest, most kissable lips, ever. I am absolutely smitten! More are to come in the future and you will absolutely be seeing them here. Until then, relish in the beauty which is ‘Midnight Snowstorm’ (my absolute favorite skin OTM) and her sisters. Complete with their own character story, because December is cool like that. xoxo & Happy 2009 my loves!
